The home of Russian dusha. The home of Russian intelligentsia. The home of Russian Revolutsia

Updated: Feb 14, 2019

Mysterious Russian soul (Russian dusha) what do we understand behind this concept? The soul of the city is the union of a culture, a heritage and character of the local residents. Saint-Petersburg as Dostoevsky wrote is very deliberate city. It is not like any other city in the world and especially in

Russia because of objective geographical and historical reasons. It is the most Northern metropolis, it was renamed thrice, almost died and was revived several times, the youngest, suffering from floods, the Museum of architecture and the city of myths and legends. That is why like the inner world of man is his soul, Petersburg is a soul of Russia. Take on St-Petersburg tours to find it out!

Intelligentsia. After March 1918 when the Bolsheviks moved the capital back to Moscow,

our city was forced to find a new face, a new use. For the residents it became difficult to employ

their intellectual resources. All these overeducated people had an access to the huge number of museums, libraries, universities, but very few jobs. There were no governments, no magazines, no Council, no publishers. It was typical to meet the Kooks, the experts of unnecessary disciplines, admirers of unknown poets etc. The first generation consisted of people of different ranks, of a different faith, nobles at the service of the state and the Emperor, but not of the aristocracy.

(Benoit, Dobuzhinsky, Blok, Akhmatova, Mandelstam). An intelligentsia is a creative class, intellectuals. And although today the role of the city in the country is growing, St Petersburg still is aggrieved at the rights of the spiritual center.

And by the way, intellectuals naively dreamed about enforced composition of an impartial world and pushed Russia into revolutions (revolutsia). Why all revolutions happened here? Because St. Petersburg was the capital of the Russian Empire. Where else to rebel against the ruling monarch if not in the political center of the country. The last Russian Emperor Nicholas II immodestly called himself as the proprietor of the Russian land. The intelligentsia and the people were ready to argue with the ruler.
